First ferry for Sund route launched

On January, 10, the first launch this year took place at Northern Shipyard SA (Stocznia Północna), member of REMONTOWA Group, being the 919th unit launched at this yard. The vessel, spectacularly launched from side launchways, is the first of two sophisticated ferries (yard no. 1064/1) being built for Sundbusserna operation on the Helsingor-Helsingborg passenger ferry route. The vessels' construction was postponed by lack of financing on the side of the owners – Moltzaus Tankskibsrederi A/S, however, meanwhile, the problems have been overcome with Moltzaus takeover by Eitzen Holding.

Representatives of the managements of Eitzen Holding, with president Axel Eitzen, as well as Sundbusserne AS, managing director Axel Flinder met top officials of REMONTOWA Group, with president Piotr Soyka and Northern Shipyard president Jaroslaw Flont at the launching ceremony and were later hosted by president Soyka at a business meeting at the premises of Remontowa SA.
The ship was launched without superstructure, which, made of alluminium, will be installed on a steel hull soon. The first of two diesel-electric driven units on order is expected to be delivered mid-year. The second ship should be launched at the turn of January and February.
Technical details on the interesting design are provided in separate article, here.
