The fifth double-ended fjord ferry for Norwegian owners launched

On May 5, 2010, Northern Shipyard based in Gdansk (Stocznia Polnocna S.A., member of REMONTOWA Group) launched the hull of its another double-ended car and passenger fjord ferry. The ship, named Storfjord (yard newbuilding no. B 609/1) is being built at Northern Shipyard, to the order of Gdansk Shiprepair Yard "Remontowa" SA for Norwegian owners Fjord1 MRF AS (Fjord1 More og Romsdal Fylkesbatar AS).

This is the fifth launched unit destined for this company and the first one from the second series of diesel-electric driven ferries. The first series of launched vessels (of which two have already been delivered) comprised of similar design ships with environmentally-friendly LNG fuelled main propulsion (fitted with gas-diesel-electric propulsion). The initial unit of the first series was awarded with prestigious "Green Ship of the Year" title.
The recently launched ship features 109.93 m overall length and capacity to carry up to 292 passengers and 116 personal cars.
Currently, the hull of Storfjord's sister vessel is being assembled at Northern Shipyard, with delivery expected early 2011.
