Northern Shipyard of REMONTOWA Group launched diesel-electric double-ended fjord ferry



Launching of the double-ended car and passenger fjord ferry Hjørundfjord took place on August 10, 2010 at REMONTOWA Group's Northern Shipyard (Stocznia Polnocna SA). The ship, designated B 609/2, is being built at Northern Shipyard to the order of Gdansk Shiprepair Yard "Remontowa" S.A. for Norwegian Owners Fjord1 MRF AS.
This is the sixth unit in the series destined for Fjord1 and the second unit of the second sub-series for the same owner. The first series consisted of ships with LNG fueled diesel - electric main propulsion, while Hjørundfjord and its sisterships in the second sub-series feature conventional (diesel-electric) propulsion.
The ship launched on August 10 is 109.93 m long, and will be able to carry up to 292 passengers and 116 personal cars or a combination of passenger cars and coaches or trucks.
Hjørundfjord is destined for Festøya-Solevåg ferry route near Alesund in Norway.
