First jack-up drilling platform to be serviced at Remontowa

A big self-elevating mobile drilling unit ENSCO 100 entered Remontowa SA ship repair yard in Gdansk, Poland, on June 2, 2009. The rig has been towed to Gdansk, Southern Baltic based yard from South-Eastern part of the North Sea (Netherlands sector), where it had been recently deployed, for an extensive range of works expected to take about 120 days.

It is the first time any Polish yard is to service a large drilling jack-up platform. Previously only semi-submersible offshore platforms had been repaired, upgraded and/or converted in Poland - all of them at Remontowa SA. With top of the jack-up's three legs some 140 m above the sea level and width of 89 m, ENSCO 100 is also the highest and widest object so far, to enter the Port of Gdansk.
The range of works to be performed by Remontowa SA on ENSCO operated jack up includes: general repairs, maintenance, cleaning of the rig's legs, protective coatings application / painting, gutting of accommodation block and installation of new interior outfit (accommodation refurbishment), as well as adding a new, additional deck to accommodation block, repairs or replacement of some items of equipment and systems, etc.
If the current, extensive range of works ordered, is not expanded in the course of jack-up modifications, then the rig is expected to be re-delivered by the yard for operations after 90-120 days.
The new Client of Remontowa - Ensco International Incorporated (ENSCO) is a premier global offshore oil and gas drilling contractor. The Company’s fleet of 52 rigs is strategically located in the most prolific oil and gas markets. ENSCO was listed on "Fortune" Magazine's ranking of top 100 fastest growing American companies in 2008 and ranked # 18.
The arrival of the jack up rig marks another instance for Remontowa of the rare occurrence of mobile offshore drilling units or other purpose offshore rigs coming to any Baltic yard from the North Sea and reflects Remontowa's renown for quality and competitiveness of its services.
